The closest major or International Airport is Salt Lake City, Utah. All the major airlines fly into Salt Lake.
There are closer smaller airports in or near the gateway cities. You can rent vehicles at Salt Lake or any of these airports. The following airports are listed according to their proximity to Yellowstone.
Billings, Montana - about 120 miles northeast of the park. Airport is open all year.
Airlines: Delta, Horizon, Northwest, Skywest and United.
Bozeman, Montana - about 90 miles north of the park. Airport is open all year.
Airlines: Delta, Horizon, Northwest and Skywest.
Cody, Wyoming - about 60 miles east of the park. Airport is open all year.
Airlines: Skywest and United.
Idaho Falls, Idaho - about 110 miles southwest of the park. Airport is open all year.
Airlines: Skywest and United.
Jackson Hole, Wyoming - about 60 miles south of the park. Airport is open all year.
Airlines: American, Skywest and United.
West Yellowstone, Montana - at the West Entrance of Yellowstone. This airport is open June through September.
Airlines: Skywest Airlines out of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Greyhound Bus Line from Salt Lake City to Bozeman or Livingston, Montana is the closest and only bus line.
The closest Amtrak Station to the park is Salt Lake City, Utah.
There is Amtrak service to northern Montana cities and Glacier National Park.

From the North
There are three routes to consider taking from the north.
1. Take I-90 East or West to Livingston, Montana. Take Highway 89 South to Gardiner, Montana and the North Entrance of Yellowstone.
2. Take I-90 East or West to Bozeman, Montana. Take Highway 191 South to West Yellowstone, Montana and the West Entrance of Yellowstone.
3. Take I-90 East or West to Highway 212 South (just west of Billings, Montana). Highway 212 will take you to Silver Gate, Montana and the Northeast Entrance of Yellowstone. This route is also known as the Beartooth Scenic Highway. It is a beautiful drive through the top of the Rockies, the views are fantastic. The Beartooth opens in late spring (around Memorial Day) and closes shortly after Labor Day. There may be temporary road closures due to snow. Check to make sure it is open before you decide to drive it.
From the East
1. From Cody, Wyoming take Highway 20 West to the East Entrance of Yellowstone.
2. From Cody, Wyoming take Stateroad 120 North to Stateroad 296 - Chief Joseph Scenic Highway - West to Highway 212 West to the Northeast Entrance of Yellowstone.

From the South
From Salt Lake City - 320 miles - driving time approximately 4.5 to 5.0 hours.
There are two basic options when driving from Salt Lake City to Yellowstone. One, the most direct route via I-15 North and/or three other routes.
Direct Route - From the Salt Lake City airport, take I-215 North to I-15 North. I-15 North will take you all the way from Utah to Idaho Falls, Idaho. At Idaho Falls, take Highway 20 North to Yellowstone. Highway 20 is four lane most of the way to the park. Just south of Ashton, Idaho the road turns into a two lane for the last 65 miles to West Yellowstone and the West Entrance of Yellowstone.

Great Salt Lake - largest lake west of the Mississippi and second saltiest body of water in the world.
Golden Spike Natl Historic Site - the spike was driven in 1869 at the completion of the transcontinental railroad.
Fort Hall - build by the hunters and trappers that traveled the Yellowstone region. Located at Pocatello, Idaho.
Fort Hall Indian Reservation - south of Blackfoot, Idaho.
World's Largest Potato Exhibit - in Blackfoot, Idaho.
Craters of the Moon National Monument - west of Blackfoot, Idaho
Mesa Falls
West Yellowstone Museum
Quake Lake and Quake Lake Museum / Visitor Center
Other Routes
1. I-215 North to I-15 North. Just a few miles south of Idaho Falls, Idaho you can take Highway 26 East to Highway 89 North. This will take you to Jackson, Wyoming and Grand Teton National Park and the South Entrance of Yellowstone. This is a very nice road with great scenery along the way. Swan Valley and the Palisades Reservoir are beautiful areas to enjoy.
2. I-215 North to I-15 North to Highway 20 North. At Rexburg, Idaho you can take Stateroad 33 East to Stateroad 22 East to Jackson, Wyoming. At Jackson take Highway 89 North to Grand Teton National Park and the South Entrance of Yellowstone.
3. I-215 North to I-15 North to the Logan, Utah exit. Take Highway 89 North to Grand Teton National Park and the South Entrance of Yellowstone.
From the West
1. From the northwest take I-90 East and follow the directions from the North.
2. Take I-84 East to I-86 East to I-15 North and then follows the directions from the South.
3. Take I-80 East or I-15 North to Salt Lake City, Utah and then follow the directions from the South.
The North Entance at Gardiner, Montana is the ONLY Entrance that is Open Year Round with Year Round Services. Please see the Calendar Page for the opening dates of all the other entrances.
You can enter the park from the North (Gardiner, Montana), Northeast (Silver Gate, Montana), East (Cody, Wyoming), South (Moran, Wyoming) and West (West Yellowstone, Montana).
